Plan a Takeout Box That Works Before You Order

A strong takeout box begins with clear decisions about the food, the service moment, the brand system, and the approval process. Our role is to help you turn those inputs into a workable structure and production plan—not to push a stock format that only partly fits. Use the guidance below to prepare the details that affect sizing, material, printing, quantity, proofing, and timing, so your quote and artwork can move forward with fewer avoidable questions.

1. 
   Start With the Food and Pack Configuration

   Tell us what will go inside, how many items belong in one order, and whether each product sits directly in the box or inside another container. A single burger, a tray-and-sleeve meal, a noodle portion, and a grouped order create different structural decisions. Include any wrapping, cups, inner containers, inserts, or dividers that must share the pack. This lets us plan the box around the actual customer experience—from handoff through opening—rather than around a generic size or an attractive design that does not match the contents.

   Size the Structure From Real Measurements

   Accurate sizing is a fit-planning process, not a guessed dimension. Provide the product or inner container’s length, width, and height, along with any irregular shape, wrapping, pack count, arrangement, and clearance needed for loading or removal. For a multi-item box, show how the parts should sit together and which item should be reached first. We can then prepare or adjust the dieline around the approved configuration. Exact dimensions should be confirmed through the job specification; they should not be inferred from another business’s box or from a product photo.

   Match the Format to the Service Channel

   Choose the structure around where the order will be seen and opened. A counter pickup may favor fast recognition and direct access, while delivery may place more importance on the arrival impression and an orderly first reveal. Grab-and-go display can require visible item distinction, and multi-item or event orders may need a planned arrangement with handles, dividers, or a presentation-style opening. These are alternatives, not requirements for every order. We help compare the relevant route against the meal, customer handoff, and available branding surfaces.

   Choose Material With the Food Use in View

   Paperboard, kraft, and supported corrugated formats can create different physical and visual characters. Paperboard options include a 14 pt to 24 pt range, while supported corrugated work can use E-flute, B-flute, F-flute, or micro-flute where the chosen structure calls for it. White, kraft, and coated inside surfaces are available. Tell us whether food touches the board directly, whether a liner or inner container is used, and whether grease is a concern. Food-grade paperboard and grease-resistant coating options are available, but we do not make an FDA certification claim. The final material and coating should be confirmed for the specific food and format.

   Build a Design System for the Menu

   Plan how the parent brand stays consistent while customers distinguish products, flavors, sizes, or promotions. The logo, typography, core colors, and panel hierarchy can remain stable while a color band, illustration, item name, or seasonal cue changes by variant. Full-color CMYK, PMS or spot color, white ink on kraft, and printing on outside or inside surfaces can support that system. This approach makes it easier to add a new menu item without starting the visual language again, while still giving each box a clear role in the range.

   Prepare the Dieline and Approve the Artwork

   Artwork and dieline support are available before production. We can provide a dieline or template, check supplied artwork, resize it for approved dimensions, and help with bleed and safe-zone setup. AI, PDF, PSD, and EPS files are accepted. A digital proof is available for every approved order, giving you a final opportunity to review the design against the confirmed structure before printing begins. A digital proof is not a physical prototype. A physical prototype may be available for a qualifying bulk or wholesale project, with its cost adjusted into the resulting order where approved. No die or plate fee is charged where supported.

7. 
   Choose a Quantity That Supports the Rollout

   Supported paperboard, cardstock, kraft, and corrugated takeout formats may start from 50 boxes. A starting quantity of 50 does not automatically remove relevant custom sizing, material, exterior or interior printing, finish, and insert choices; the options remain subject to the approved structure and production specification. Per-unit pricing generally improves as quantity increases, with more visible differences often appearing around 500 units. No fixed saving percentage should be assumed. For a menu launch or test, choose a quantity around the number of design variants, planned promotion, and next reorder.

8. 
   Plan Production From the Approval Milestones

   Production normally takes 4–6 business days after payment, final artwork approval and structure confirmation. Production-ready jobs are generally planned to print and ship within 7 business days. Shipping transit time is separate, while complex multi-design orders may require a separately confirmed schedule. Send final measurements, the number of designs, quantities by design, and required delivery timing early so the production plan reflects the real setup. Printing does not begin before the required approvals, and a delivery date should not be calculated from production time alone.

9. 
   Coordinate Multi-Location or Agency Orders

   One order can be shipped to multiple addresses, which can support multi-location programs, event orders, or multi-design jobs. Provide each destination, quantity split, and timing requirement during planning so the shipping arrangement can be reviewed before production. Design firms and white-label partners can also work with the production team. For multi-design or multi-location programs, a shared naming system for files, variants, and quantities helps keep approvals clear and reduces the risk of sending the wrong design to the wrong destination.
