Custom matte and spot UV boxes help your packaging feel composed at first glance while giving selected brand details the contrast they need to be noticed. When customers compare products in a store, receive an order, or open a presentation box, the surface can shape how quickly they understand what matters. A matte base reduces visual noise, while selective spot UV can draw the eye to a logo, product name, pattern, or key message. Applied through a coordinated custom design, that contrast gives the box a clearer visual order and helps the brand feel deliberate across retail, gifting, delivery, or handoff moments. We help you build the effect around the result you want customers to see and feel. Whether the goal is a restrained retail carton, a polished gift box, or a branded mailer, the finish plan is developed with the structure, artwork, material, and opening experience so the package feels connected rather than decorated in separate steps. Your project can be supported with custom sizing, paperboard, kraft, rigid grey board, or relevant corrugated formats; exterior and interior printing; matte lamination; spot UV or raised spot UV; inserts; dieline and artwork assistance; and digital proofing before production. Available digital, offset, CMYK, PMS, and white-on-kraft printing routes give the design room to keep brand colors, surface contrast, and information hierarchy working together. The final specification is confirmed around the selected box style, quantity, artwork, and production requirements.

BOX ROUTES FOR CLEARER IMPACT
Choose a Structure That Supports the Finish
Matte and spot UV can support different packaging routes, but the best structure depends on what the box holds, how it is packed, where customers meet it, and what they should notice first. A folding carton may need fast product recognition on a retail shelf, while a rigid box may need a more deliberate gift or presentation reveal. Sleeves and trays can use movement and panel changes to shape discovery, and relevant mailer formats can carry the same brand logic into delivery. Choose the route that fits the product and channel first, then use matte and selective gloss to make the intended visual priority clear.
Folding Cartons
Create compact retail or product cartons with a quiet matte field and selective gloss on the logo, product name, pattern, or information cue. Choose straight tuck, reverse tuck, auto-bottom, or lock-bottom structures around the product and packing method.
- Single-product or range packs
- Tuck or bottom-lock structures
- Selective gloss brand details
- Retail and handoff suitability
A practical route for keeping product information clear while giving selected brand elements greater visual weight.

Rigid Presentation Boxes
Give gift sets, launch products, kits, or important customer deliveries a more substantial structure. Two-piece, drawer, book-style, magnetic-closure, and other supported rigid formats can combine a restrained matte wrap with carefully placed glossy or raised details.
- Sets, kits, or hero products
- Two-piece, drawer, or magnetic
- Matte wrap with gloss focus
- Gifting and presentation moments
Create a considered reveal while keeping the finish language measured, connected, and specific to your brand.

Sleeves and Tray Boxes
Use a sleeve-and-tray format when the box should reveal the product in stages. The outer sleeve can establish the matte-and-gloss identity, while the tray, interior print, or insert continues the intended visual direction after opening.
- Single products or grouped sets
- Sliding sleeve-and-tray format
- Selected exterior brand emphasis
- Retail, gifting, or launches
The structure adds movement to the reveal without allowing the surface treatment to overpower the product inside.

Branded Presentation Mailers
Carry the same brand character into subscription deliveries, promotional kits, product launches, or customer mailings. Relevant paperboard, kraft, or corrugated mailer structures can coordinate exterior and interior printing, with the finish route confirmed for the selected material and construction.
- Delivery, subscription, or kits
- Roll-end or folder structures
- Exterior and interior continuity
- Arrival and opening support
Build a more connected receiving experience from the first exterior view to the moment the package opens.

Give the Finish the Right Physical Foundation
The material determines whether a matte and spot UV box feels crisp, natural, substantial, or delivery-ready before the customer studies the artwork. Smooth SBS or coated paperboard can support cleaner print definition and a controlled retail surface. Kraft can bring a more natural, craft-led character, while rigid greyboard can give sets and presentation boxes greater physical presence. Corrugated material can carry a coordinated brand identity into relevant mailer, product, promotional, or kit formats. The right choice balances the intended impression with the box structure, product fit, handling needs, and the production specification required for the selected finish plan.
SBS and Coated Paperboard
SBS and coated paperboard are suited to folding cartons that need clear printed graphics, organized information, and a smooth overall character. A matte surface can calm a detailed design, while selective gloss gives chosen elements a stronger point of focus. Use this route when the box should feel clean, precise, and ready for retail, product photography, gifting, or direct customer handoff.
Kraft Paperboard
Kraft gives the package a more natural and craft-led starting point. White ink, full-color printing, and selected finishing can be coordinated with the brown material character rather than covering it without purpose. This approach can help a brand retain an earthy or handmade identity while using contrast to make the name, pattern, or product cue easier to recognize.
Rigid Greyboard
Rigid greyboard gives gift boxes, product sets, launch kits, and presentation formats greater physical presence. The overwrap, print, matte treatment, spot UV, raised effects, and closure style can be planned as one connected expression. Choose rigid construction when the structure itself should contribute to a more substantial handoff, reveal, or product-lift experience.
Relevant Corrugated Formats
Corrugated material is available for relevant mailer, product, presentation, promotional, and kit-box formats. It can carry a coordinated brand identity into delivery or larger product applications where a plain stock carton would not express the intended character. The material, flute, print route, box size, and finish specification should be confirmed together. This route is intended for customized product and presentation needs rather than large commodity shipping-carton positioning.
PRINT WITH A CLEAR FOCUS
Make the Artwork and Surface Work as One
Printing establishes the product and brand meaning; matte and spot UV decide where that meaning receives extra visual weight. Build the artwork so customers can recognize the brand, understand the product or variant, and find the most important cue without competing messages. CMYK, PMS or spot-color, digital, and offset printing routes are available, along with exterior and interior printing and white ink on kraft. That production range lets the design keep colors, typography, patterns, and information connected across the box while selective gloss highlights only the elements that deserve closer attention.
- Keep the parent brand visible across variants
- Give product names a clearer visual role
- Separate key information from background artwork
- Carry brand colors across multiple panels
- Continue selected cues inside the box
- Adapt the design for relevant channels
CONTRAST WITH A PURPOSE
Control What Customers Notice and Feel First
A successful matte and spot UV design is not measured by how much of the box is coated. It is measured by how clearly the surface guides attention and supports the quality the brand intends to communicate. Matte lamination can create a quieter overall field. Spot UV can add gloss contrast to chosen details, and raised spot UV can add extra tactile emphasis where the concept calls for it. Used with restraint, these effects help customers read the package in the intended order and give the box a more deliberate character in the hand.
-
Set the Surface Tone
Matte lamination can give the overall box a calmer, softer-looking, and more controlled surface. It can reduce competition between busy design elements and create a consistent background for the product name, logo, or message that deserves greater attention. Use the matte foundation to establish the intended mood first. A restrained cosmetic box, technical product carton, gift package, or presentation kit may each use that surface differently.
-
Direct Attention with Spot UV
Spot UV adds gloss to selected parts of the design instead of treating the whole surface equally. It can emphasize a logo, name, line pattern, product image, short message, or other approved artwork element. The value comes from selection. When the glossy area supports a clear visual priority, customers can understand the hierarchy more naturally and the package feels intentionally composed rather than heavily decorated.
-
Add Tactile Weight with Raised Spot UV
Raised spot UV can give selected details greater physical presence as well as visible contrast. It may suit a brand mark, pattern, limited-edition cue, or other element that should be discovered through handling as well as sight. It should remain focused. The raised effect works best as a purposeful accent within the wider surface plan, not as a reason to cover every panel.
CONTINUE THE STORY INSIDE
Keep the Brand Connected After the Box Opens
The outside of the box can create interest, but the opening should not feel disconnected from that promise. For gift sets, subscriptions, product kits, samplers, or coordinated collections, the inside can continue the same colors, artwork, and message established by the matte exterior and selective gloss details. Inserts, dividers, trays, and considered spacing can organize products and help customers understand what they have received. The goal is a clear sequence from first view to opening, lift-out, and product selection, with every visible surface supporting the same brand character.
-
Continue Carry the Visual Language Inside
Use relevant interior printing, color, patterns, or short messaging to continue the identity established on the outer box. This prevents the experience from becoming visually generic as soon as the lid, sleeve, or mailer opens. The interior does not need to repeat every exterior element. It should carry enough of the same visual logic to make the package feel connected.
-
Guide Give Every Product a Clear Place
Foam, paperboard, kraft, cardboard, or corrugated inserts can be shaped around relevant products and components. Dividers and trays can also separate variants or arrange a coordinated set. A considered layout helps customers understand what belongs together and makes product selection, lift-out, or setup easier to follow.
-
Reward Shape the First Reveal
Plan which product, message, or branded surface becomes visible first. A sleeve can introduce the tray gradually, a rigid lid can reveal an organized set, and a mailer can open onto printed interior content or a fitted arrangement. The result is a more deliberate transition from exterior recognition to product discovery, without relying on unnecessary theatrical effects.
Plan Matte and Spot UV Packaging with Confidence
A matte-and-spot-UV project works best when the finish is treated as part of the full packaging decision. Structure, material, artwork, product fit, opening, quantity, and production planning all influence the final result. Our team can help you organize those decisions before the job reaches production, so the approved specification reflects what the package needs to communicate and how it will be used.
-
Start with the Moment That Matters Most
Decide where the box needs to do its most important work. That may be first sight on a retail shelf, comparison between product variants, a customer handoff, a gift presentation, a delivery arrival, or the opening of a kit or subscription. This decision helps determine where spot UV should appear and how much visual competition surrounds it. A retail carton may need the product name or variant to receive emphasis. A presentation box may give the brand mark or opening message greater importance. A delivery format may need the identity to remain recognizable across the exterior and interior. Choose one primary viewing priority first. Supporting details can then be arranged around it rather than asking every part of the design to compete equally.
-
Match the Structure to the Product and Channel
The box must be planned around the product before the surface treatment is finalized. Relevant inputs include the product’s length, width, height, shape, inner container or wrapping, pack count, orientation, insert needs, and removal clearance. No standard size should be assumed without those details. A carton for one retail item, a rigid box for a coordinated set, and a mailer for a subscription each create different panel proportions and opening sequences. Those differences affect the space available for artwork and the way matte and spot UV details are encountered. Supported structural routes include folding cartons, sleeves and trays, two-piece boxes, rigid setup styles, drawer boxes, magnetic-closure formats, relevant mailers, display styles, window boxes, and other custom shapes. Round and tube boxes are not offered.
-
Select a Material for the Intended Character
Paperboard or cardstock may suit compact cartons that need clear printed information and a refined surface. Kraft can support a natural or craft-led identity, including relevant white-ink printing. Rigid greyboard can give gift sets, launch kits, or presentation boxes greater physical presence. Corrugated cardboard is available for relevant mailer, product, promotional, presentation, and kit-box applications. Larger customized product boxes may also be considered where the application supports them, but the service is not positioned around large commodity shipping cartons. The selected stock, thickness, structure, printing method, and finish treatment are confirmed as one production specification. This keeps the material choice connected to the customer impression instead of treating it as a board name alone.
-
Prepare Artwork Around a Clear Finish Plan
Mark the logo, pattern, text, image, or other design element that should receive spot UV or raised spot UV. The remaining artwork should support that emphasis rather than compete with it. Artwork support includes dieline or template assistance, file checking, resizing for approved dimensions, and help with bleed and safe zones. Accepted production file types include AI, PDF, PSD, and EPS. Digital, offset, CMYK, PMS or spot-color, exterior, interior, and white-on-kraft printing routes are available where relevant to the approved project. The team can review the relationship between the structural panels, printed artwork, matte treatment, and selective UV area before production. Final printing does not begin until the required artwork and structure approvals are complete.
-
Review Proofs Before Production
A digital proof is available for every approved order. Use it to review the box layout, artwork placement, text, dimensions, and planned production details before authorizing the job. A digital proof is not a physical prototype. For a qualifying bulk or wholesale project, a physical prototype may be available, and its cost may be adjusted into the resulting order where approved. This is confirmed according to the project rather than offered as an unrestricted free sample. Buyer-supplied legal, regulated, dosage, ingredient, or compliance information remains the buyer’s responsibility. The production team can provide print space and artwork support without making unsupported approval or compliance claims.
-
Plan Quantity, Pricing and Production Timing
Paperboard, cardstock, kraft, and supported corrugated orders may start from 50 boxes. Supported rigid-box orders may start from 25 boxes. These starting quantities do not automatically remove relevant choices for sizing, exterior or interior printing, finishes, or inserts, subject to the approved structure and production specification. Per-unit pricing generally improves as quantity increases. More visible differences may begin around 500 units, but the exact price depends on the structure, size, material, printing, finishes, inserts, quantity, and delivery requirements. No die or plate fee is charged for supported projects. Production normally takes 4–6 business days after payment, final artwork approval and structure confirmation. Production-ready jobs are generally planned to print and ship within 7 business days. Shipping transit time is separate, while complex multi-design orders may require a separately confirmed schedule. The same order can also be arranged for multiple shipping addresses where required. White-label and design-firm workflows are available for teams managing packaging on behalf of their own clients.
MATTE & SPOT UV QUESTIONS
Answers Before You Design and Order
Matte creates the quieter overall surface, while spot UV adds gloss to selected design elements. The contrast can help a logo, product name, pattern, image, or message receive more attention without making every panel equally reflective. The strongest result usually begins with a clear priority. Decide what the customer should notice first, then build the printed artwork and selective gloss around that purpose. Raised spot UV is also available when the selected detail should have additional tactile emphasis.
Choose the elements that help customers recognize the brand or understand the product most quickly. This may be the logo, product name, variant, short message, pattern, or a selected part of an image. You do not need to apply spot UV to every important element. A smaller number of focused areas can create a clearer order than several competing effects. Artwork support is available to help position the selected UV areas within the approved dieline and overall design.
Yes. Matte, spot UV, and raised spot UV can be planned for supported paperboard, cardstock, kraft, and rigid-box applications, subject to the selected material and production specification. Available structures include folding cartons, sleeves and trays, two-piece boxes, rigid setup boxes, drawer styles, magnetic-closure boxes, displays, windows, and relevant custom mailer or presentation formats. The team will confirm the structure, stock, print method, and finish route together before production. Round and tube boxes are not available.
Yes. Exterior and interior printing are available, allowing the outside to use a restrained matte-and-gloss design while the inside continues selected colors, patterns, or messaging. Interior print can be especially useful for gift boxes, product sets, subscriptions, mailers, and presentation kits. Inserts, dividers, or trays can also be added where the products need a clearer arrangement. The interior does not have to copy the exterior exactly; it can support the same brand character in a way that fits the opening sequence.
Yes. A smaller business can begin with custom packaging without committing to an unnecessarily large first run. Paperboard, cardstock, kraft, and supported corrugated orders may start from 50 boxes, while supported rigid-box formats may start from 25. Relevant custom sizing, exterior or interior printing, matte lamination, spot UV, raised effects, and insert options remain available at these starting quantities where they suit the approved structure and production specification. This gives an emerging brand room to prepare a launch, promotion, product range, or gift format without relying only on generic stock packaging.
You can provide AI, PDF, PSD, or EPS files, and support is available for dielines, templates, artwork checking, resizing, bleed, and safe zones. Identify which design elements should receive spot UV or raised spot UV so they can be reviewed with the full box layout. A digital proof is provided for every approved order. Production begins only after payment, final artwork approval, and structure confirmation. You remain responsible for checking buyer-supplied text, product details, legal information, and any regulated content before approval.
A physical prototype may be available for a qualifying bulk or wholesale project. Its cost may be adjusted into the resulting order where approved. This is different from the digital proof provided with every approved order. The digital proof is used to check the layout, artwork placement, dimensions, and production details, while a prototype is a separately confirmed physical step. Unrestricted free samples or one-box production are not offered.
Production normally takes 4–6 business days after payment, final artwork approval, and structure confirmation. Production-ready jobs are generally planned to print and ship within 7 business days. Shipping transit time is separate and depends on the destination and selected delivery arrangement. A complex order containing many separate designs may require a schedule confirmed specifically for that project. The production timeline does not begin while artwork approval, payment, or structural details remain incomplete. This version keeps Section 5 focused on the finish promise while Sections 2–4, 6, and 7 provide the structural, material, printing, opening, and service proof behind it.
